Hey everyone! We had a backup generator installed recently, but I wasn't around for the final setup, and now I can't reach the installer. I want to shift this heavy generator about 6 to 8 inches away from our stone retaining wall so that I can get the lawnmower around it. It's a hefty 18kw Generac generator on a concrete pad. Luckily, both the gas line and electrical conduit are flexible. I've got access to an appliance dolly with big rubber wheels, some plywood, and a piano dolly. I don't usually have four strong guys available to help lift it. Any tips on how I can safely move this?

You could try using the lever and fulcrum method. Grab a couple of small diameter steel pipes and a sturdy lever. Lift one side of the generator with the lever, slide a pipe underneath to support it, and then repeat on the other side. This way, you can gently roll it to the new spot. Just make sure it's safe and stable while you do this!
Be careful—these generators are usually bolted down! You might need to unbolt it first before moving, so check if there are any securing bolts attached.
If the generator is heavy but you manage to move it, keep in mind that the concrete pad might block your way too. Is the pad just a poured slab, or can it shift as well? It would help to clarify what the setup looks like, but unfortunately, I know photos aren’t allowed here.
It's a 4-inch thick pad placed on gravel, just a few inches bigger than the generator itself.
