How to Move My Houseplants Across the Country?

Hey everyone! My partner and I are planning a big move from Indiana to Oregon in the Spring/Summer, and I just can't bear to leave my plants behind. I have over 30 different ones, and I want to make sure they have the best chance of survival during the 31-hour drive. Any tips or tricks for transporting them safely?

I packed my plants in totes with towels or rags in between to prevent them from knocking against each other. Be sure to bring them inside if you stop somewhere cold during the night—they can freeze! Also, wrapping the top of the pots with wet paper towels and using clear packing wrap keeps the soil from spilling and helps retain moisture. If you're worried about the tops, you can use cotton or pillow stuffing for extra padding. They sell heat packs and bubble insulation at stores like Walmart, so consider grabbing some if it’s going to be chilly.

When I moved, I pruned my plants to make them easier to transport and repotted them into smaller, lighter containers. It really helped minimize stress during the trip!
