How to Paint Over a Hole Patch so It Blends In?

Hey everyone! I'm a new homeowner and recently painted my entire house. We installed some pot lights, which required patching a few holes in the ceiling. Now, I need to paint over those patches and blend them in nicely. The ceiling and walls are the same color and texture. What are the best steps or techniques to ensure a smooth, invisible finish? Thanks in advance!

Definitely start with a primer before you paint! I once had some patched holes and thought a dark color would cover it without primer—I was so wrong. Even with three coats of navy blue, the patches still peeked through in certain light. Using a good primer makes all the difference. Just grab a primer that matches the paint brand you're using for better results.

Got it! I came across something called 'mist coating'—not sure how that works, but now I see how important primer is. Thanks for the tip!
