How to Power a Fan on a Damaged Graphics Card?

Asked By CreativeCoder99 On

I recently had a mishap while trying to spray paint certain parts of my graphics card. Unfortunately, I snapped a 6-pin ribbon cable that connects to one of the fans. After buying a replacement cable, I had a serious issue where it smoked and caught fire, but thankfully my graphics card and the rest of my computer survived. Now, the FFC/FPC connector on the graphics card's PCB is damaged. I haven't tested it fully because I'm worried about causing more damage, and I think I can only open and close it once more before stripping the screws. I also purchased a new fan, but it didn't function either. I'm looking for ways to power the fan without using the graphics card directly. I've been searching for a converter that would allow me to connect the 6-pin ribbon cable to something more familiar for power. Ideally, I want to get it working first, and later on, I'd love to control the fan speed with an Arduino. Any suggestions?

You might want to check out this converter on eBay: https://ebay.us/m/I58XLf. If your graphics card is ever sold, consider selling it for parts since the connector is ruined. Also, what screws were you worried about damaging?

I didn’t have the right screwdriver bits when taking it apart, and the screws were super tight. I stumbled upon that converter earlier, but I’m new to this and not sure how it would help. I’ve watched some videos, but none seem to tackle my issue.
