I've just finished some landscaping and now have about 40m² of excess soil that I want to turn into a lawn. I'm considering mixing a ton of sharp sand with a ton of topsoil and some grass seed to level it out. Is this a good approach?

This isn't the ideal time to sow grass seed. It's better to plant in early September when weeds are dying off, giving your grass a stronger chance to grow. Plus, you'll likely get some rain that can help you avoid daily watering.
You should check what’s underneath the excess soil first. It’s important to know if you have decent subsoil or if there’s a lot of rubble and clay beneath. You might want to dig some test pits or do a soil jar test to assess it. If it's bad, consider adding a solid 12 inches of good soil now so your lawn can thrive in the long run instead of dealing with issues later.
Yes, mixing topsoil with sharp sand and seed should work great for your lawn! Just make sure to keep it well-watered for the first couple of months to help the grass establish itself.

It used to be a lawn; I just leveled it out with spoil from another project, so it looks rough at the moment.
