How to Prevent Rust in a Humid Workshop?

I've recently started using hand tools more in my basement workroom, and I'm facing a real challenge with humidity this summer. I noticed rust marks on my brand new Lee Valley apron plane which was pretty disappointing. Despite running a dehumidifier, we're still seeing humidity levels fluctuate between 40-60%. What are some effective methods to keep rust at bay? Should I be using oil, wax, or something else?

After each use, I just wipe down my tools with an oily rag and pop them in a ziplock bag. It really helps to keep moisture away!

I live in a humid area too, and I initially used 3-in-1 oil just because I always had it on hand. Camellia oil is great but can be pricey. I invested in some plane socks and toss in silica desiccant packs to absorb moisture. Keep the wrapper that some hand planes come with; it can help protect your tools as well. Ultimately, I mix beeswax with mineral oil for a trusty solution on all my metal and wood tools. Just make sure to clean your tools thoroughly after each use — old toothbrushes are perfect for getting into those tight spots!

That's a solid method! Keeping them clean really makes a difference, right?

One trick I've learned is to use camphor tablets; they work great for preventing rust, especially in enclosed spaces like toolboxes. Most folks also recommend applying some paste wax or a few drops of 3-in-1 oil on your tools after use, but don't forget to wipe off any excess!
