Hey everyone! I'm currently working on a project in my hallway where I want to build a bench with side panels around a cabinet space. I'm a bit confused about the best way to attach these panels so that they look neat and sturdy. Should I use screws, hidden joints, brackets, glue, or something else? I'm looking for any tips or tutorials that could help me achieve the look I'm going for. I've added a link to a picture of my desired finished look. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

For attaching side panels, I'd recommend using a combination of screws and wood glue. Screws will give you the sturdiness you need, and the glue will help with adhesion and keep everything looking seamless. If you want a clean look, consider using pocket hole screws so they aren't visible from the outside. Make sure to pre-drill the holes to avoid splitting the wood!
Another option is to use brackets, especially if you want to ensure maximum support. Hidden brackets can be a bit tricky to install, but they keep everything looking neat. Just make sure you measure twice before you cut!
Thanks for the tip! I hadn’t thought about brackets. I'll look into hidden ones for a cleaner finish.

Totally agree! Adding pocket holes is a great way to keep it clean. You can also use a clamp while the glue dries to ensure everything stays in place.
