How to Properly Remove and Seal a Dryer Vent Pipe?

I recently moved into a new house that has two spots for a washer and dryer. I've taken out one of the washer-dryer combos and am converting that space into a pantry. Now, I need help with removing the dryer vent pipe and sealing it off. I have a vent cover that I could just attach, but I prefer to take the pipe down to the floor level. Do I need metal snippers to cut the pipe? Plus, I've noticed that heat still comes out of the pipe when the other dryer is running. Is that important? I've posted some pictures in the comments to illustrate. Thanks in advance for any advice!

You're right about wanting to take it down to the floor. If you're feeling any air from that old vent when the other dryer is on, there's likely a junction somewhere that you should address. It's best to trace it back to where it meets the main system and remove it completely to prevent lint buildup, which could cause a fire hazard later on. As for cutting the pipe, it looks like it should just pull out of the hole in the floor without needing snippers. Just give it a gentle tug and see if it comes loose!

Thanks for the tip! So junctions aren’t usually hidden behind walls?

Yes, junctions can sometimes be behind walls, but it’s often just at the connection points with the other ducts. Keep an eye out!

If you want to completely seal off that dryer vent, you definitely should remove it from the junction and not just cover it up. Using metal snippers can help if you find any stubborn bits that won't pull out easily, but most of the time, you can just unscrew or pull it free. Don't forget to clean up any lint that's accumulated when you go in there!
