My friend has a DVR system with four cameras set up outside, but unfortunately, a landscaper accidentally cut through the coax cables leading outside. Instead of replacing the cables entirely, I'm considering splicing them. Does anyone have experience with this? What are the potential downsides of splicing, especially when it comes to signal quality? Also, I can waterproof the connections, but I'm unsure if that will be enough to prevent issues. Any advice would really help!

If the damage is recent and water hasn't gotten in, splicing should work well for you! Just use heat-shrink tubing over your connections, and they should hold up nicely for a long time. If it’s been exposed to the elements for a while, though, that could complicate things.
I appreciate the insight! Since it's been a week and we've had some heavy rain, do you think it’s worth cutting back a few meters on each side to be safe? I'm trying to figure out how much the water might have affected the cable.
