I recently purchased some measuring tools from Taytools, including layout and 1-2-3 blocks, and noticed they came coated in oil and packed in paper. I've seen discussions around waxing table saws to protect them, but is that really necessary for smaller tools like 1-2-3 blocks and combo squares? Also, what's the best way to protect these tools, especially those with cavities like the 1-2-3 blocks?

Generally, it's not strictly necessary to wax small tools like 1-2-3 blocks, but a little care goes a long way. I just wipe off the oil with a rag and then apply some tool wax with a different cloth. If you’re in Canada, Lee Valley has a great tool wax you might want to check out!

I usually go for the rag-in-a-can option from Paul Sellers. Just a quick swipe and I haven’t seen any rust on my tools since!
