Hey everyone! I've got my FIOS setup in the far corner of my finished basement, but I really want to move the connection to the first floor. The idea is to avoid relying on multiple nodes since those kill the speed halfway through the house. Ideally, I'd love a central location, but I'd settle for a spot directly above the current setup. I know you typically have to drill through the subfloor to run wires between floors, but is there any way to avoid that? The basement is finished, so I don't have easy access to the framing. Any suggestions?

Generally, you’ll have to drill or cut somewhere. I suggest checking out some YouTube videos about running wires in finished basements or rooms. It’ll give you a better idea of your options and help you create a plan that suits your setup.
If your house doesn't have conduit installed (which is rare in residential homes), your best bet might be to run wires near existing pipes or ductwork. Just keep in mind to protect your wiring from damage and maintain any fire barriers. You could also drill from an unfinished utility room if that’s a more central spot.
Yeah, if you’re comfortable with it, you could consider cutting open a wall to access the framing instead of drilling through the floor. I had a similar situation and ended up using a spot in a closet where there was some drywall that I could open up to run wires between the attic and crawlspace.

That’s exactly the information I was hunting for! I’m thinking of going through the utility room since it gives a direct line of sight to my current termination point, only about 15 ft away. Sounds like a solid plan!
