I'm looking to remove a concrete plug that's currently supporting a pole for my basketball hoop. Does anyone have tips or suggestions based on their experience? Also, I'm curious about what tools I should use besides a sledgehammer!

For removing that plug, I'd recommend using a hammer and chisel or a rock bar. Go a good 6 inches below the surface before covering it up with dirt—3 inches might do too, but deeper is safer. When I took out my basketball post, that method worked like a charm. If you're dealing with multiple plugs, I suggest renting a skid steer for a heavy-duty pull. Sledgehammers are great, but sometimes you need a bit more muscle!
Before you start, I’d ask why exactly are you removing it? Is it surrounded by dirt or more concrete? If it’s a hefty piece, you might want to rent a hammer drill or jackhammer from your local hardware store—it'll make breaking it up a lot easier!
If you're looking for a different approach, a high-lift jack with a tow strap can be really helpful for lifting it out. And don't forget that sledgehammer to break it into smaller bits for disposal! Just make sure you have your safety gear on during the process.

Good call on using a high-lift jack! It can save your back when dealing with heavy stuff like that.
