How to Remove Residue from Glasses After Moving?

Asked By CuriousCat92 On

I just moved into a new house, and since then, all my glasses are developing this weird film. It's not something you can feel or taste, but it definitely doesn't come off easily, even with hand washing. Has anyone experienced this? Any tips on why it's happening and how I can clean my current glasses? Just for reference, we got a brand-new dishwasher, so I know it's clean!

Sounds like you might be dealing with hard water! That can leave a film on your glasses. Have you tried using rinse aid in your dishwasher? It can help the water drain off better and prevent spots.

We did add rinse aid, but it didn’t seem to do much!

You should definitely try using CLR to clean them. If that works, then it’s likely the hard water causing the trouble. Just make sure you rinse well. If it doesn’t help, you might be using too much detergent. Maybe look into using a water softener if it’s a hard water issue.

It might also be from the dishwasher settings. Some people notice the dishes getting a film if the waste hose isn’t properly installed or if water isn’t heating enough. You could get some test strips to check your water hardness, just to be sure!

I had a similar situation! If you're washing glasses that had dairy in them, the heat might be setting a film on them permanently. After that, I switched to using mugs for milk! Just a thought if your roommates drink oat milk lattes out of those glasses.

That’s interesting—our showers and sink water gets SO hot, but I wonder if the dishwasher isn’t heating as much. I’ll have to check!
