I'm dealing with a Sheetrock ceiling that's nailed onto plywood. I want to take down the Sheetrock while keeping the plywood intact since I don't want to disturb the blown-in insulation above. What are some effective strategies to make this process less messy? I started tearing it down, but it's creating a lot of smaller pieces, which is just making a big mess.

If you can find some screws with a strong magnet, that might work for you, especially on the studs. But since the plywood is tricky, it’s hit or miss. Just be careful, as they might have used loads of nails everywhere, and the popcorn texture adds to the challenge!
One good method is to score the Sheetrock in big squares with a utility knife. After that, pry off the chunks instead of just ripping it down, so you have bigger pieces to handle. Make sure to lay down some tarps, put on goggles, and have a shop vac on standby to catch the dust early!
I’ll give that a shot tomorrow and see if it makes a difference. It’s definitely tough to work through.
Drywall nails can be a nightmare. I’ve found that scoring a 1x1 square in the corner and ripping the drywall can help. If you have an oscillating tool with a nail-cutting blade, slide it under the edge and cut while prying—that could help reduce some of the mess, though it’s hard to avoid completely!

Yeah, they really went all out with the nails! That thick texture makes it even harder to manage.
