I have a block foundation on my house that was built back in the 50s. There's an old coating on it that's cracked, especially around the mortar joints. I'm confused about the best way to repair it. Should I power wash the block and then just repaint it with masonry paint? Do I need to caulk the cracks first? I'm not entirely sure about the process. Here's a link to a picture of the issue for reference. Thanks in advance for your advice!

It looks like you might have a parge coat over the block. You'll likely need to remove some of that loose coating and redo it before you paint. Just power washing might not be enough if the coating is failing.
First, I'd suggest filling those cracks with a product like concrete caulk. After that, give it a good cleaning before applying the masonry paint. That should help get a better finish!
Sounds like a solid plan! I think the caulk will help a lot with the durability of the paint.
Good point! I'll definitely check for any loose areas.
