How to Replace a Broken Doorbell Button with Hard-to-Reach Wires?

So I've got a situation with my doorbell – the button broke off and now the wires are just sitting in the hole, which makes it nearly impossible to grab them to connect a new button. I'm trying to troubleshoot whether the issue lies with just the chime, the transformer, or if it could be both. Is there any way I can snake the wire out from this tight spot? Thanks in advance!

It looks like you have a two-tone doorbell setup, with one tone for the front and another for the back. Typically, one of those tones won’t have anything connected to it, which is pretty common. If you give the wire in the hole a gentle tug, you should be able to pull out a bit more wire. Don't worry about electrocution – you might feel a slight tingle, but wearing rubber gloves while you work is definitely a good idea!

You might want to splice on an extension wire using a wire nut. If you're sure that the existing wire leads to the doorbell, try taping the new wire to the old one. Then, you can use needle nose pliers to grab the old wire and pull the new one through the hole.

That sounds like a solid plan! Just tape it up tight so it doesn't come loose when you're pulling. Good luck!
