I'm living in a rented apartment where the water is really hard, and it's taking a toll on my skin. I'm considering swapping out the showerhead for a filtered one, but I'm worried about how to do this without causing permanent damage. The current showerhead doesn't seem to detach easily—it's attached with a ball and socket joint and clamped on. I thought about unscrewing the entire pipe from the wall, but I haven't had any luck with just using my hands and I definitely don't want to break anything. Is there a safe way to make this change, or am I stuck with hard water? Also, I'm new here and not sure how to share pictures, but I do have some if needed. Thanks for any advice!

Hey! Definitely skip trying to unscrew that pipe from the wall; you don't want to risk a leak in a rental. Also, just a heads up, those filtered showerheads might not really do much for hard water. The water flows through too quickly to make a real difference with the minerals.
