How to Replace Veneer on My Favorite Coffee Table?

Asked By ChillinOut123 On

I've got this Mid-Century Modern coffee table that I've cherished since grad school. I found it second hand, but unfortunately, the veneer is in pretty rough shape—mostly because I used it as a surface for art projects and, let's not forget, my cat's not-so-great habits have left some chew marks on it too.

I'm really looking to replace the veneer entirely. Ideally, I'd like to switch to a lighter and warmer wood tone because I don't think I'd find a match that's quite the same as the original. I'm a complete novice in this area, so any tips, resources, or guidance on how to tackle this project would be greatly appreciated!

Hey! First off, it sounds like a great project, but I've gotta warn you—veneering can be pretty advanced. If you want to replace the veneer yourself, I'd suggest posting a picture of your coffee table so folks can give more specific advice.

And remember, if you can manage to get that old veneer off cleanly, the replacement part isn't too tricky! Just be careful—it might be challenging to remove, but it's doable.

Thanks! I'm happy to share a pic. Just need to figure out how to get the old veneer off without ruining the table.
