How to Revive Dead Turf in a New Home?

Hey everyone! I just moved into a new property, and I'm dealing with a frustrating situation. The turf that was freshly laid is now dying quickly due to the extreme heat we've been having here in the UK. The turf was installed during warm weather, which didn't help it establish properly. It's now turning yellow and brown, and despite my efforts to water it, nothing seems to help. I've also heard from neighbors that the soil underneath is full of stones and debris, which might be preventing the grass from rooting properly. I'm at a loss about what to do next. Should I keep trying with this grass, or should I wait for the weather to cool down before replacing it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, in this weather, I'd just wait it out. Anything new you put down now will likely die anyway. If it’s already dead, maybe pull up a small section to check the roots and soil. If it’s bad, you can always add topsoil later. Also, be patient – sometimes grass can surprise you and come back once it gets the moisture it craves!

Sounds like a classic new build issue! If you really want to fix this, you might need to bring in a digger and some topsoil. I made the mistake of thinking I’d have good soil and man, was I wrong! It was all rocks and debris under mine too. You might just have to dig it all up to start fresh and set things right for the future.

I had a similar situation recently where I was losing hope. What ended up working for me was running a sprinkler for a few hours over several days. It can be tough on the water bill, but it helped my grass bounce back during a heatwave. Just keep at it and give it a chance! And remember to water in the late evening if you can; that way it has a better shot to soak in.
