The weather is getting colder here, and I'm starting to worry about my tropical plants. I have lime, cinnamon, and lemon trees that definitely won't survive a Montana winter. What's your go-to routine for bringing them back indoors without introducing pests? I had a spider problem in my lime tree last time, and I'd prefer to avoid any new roommates this year!

Quarantining is definitely key! When bringing them in, you can either spray them and wipe them down while checking for pests or even dunk them in a tub or sink. I keep my indoor plants separate from the ones that spent the summer outside to avoid cross-contamination. I don’t usually have serious pest problems, mostly just the occasional spider. Good luck with your plants!
I’ve been bringing my plants in for over 20 years without quarantining, and I've never had an issue. I just keep an eye on them for any signs of pests. If it's going to drop below 45°F, I cover them with a sheet at night until the weather warms up again. It’s worked for me, but I know some people prefer the caution of quarantining.
I always start prepping at least a month before bringing them inside. I repot anything that needs it, add pest control, and give them a care spray. I check them regularly for signs of infestation before moving them inside so that I know they're safe. It takes some effort, but it’s worth it to keep the plants healthy!
