How to Safely Cut MDF with a Table Saw?

Hey folks, I'm in the middle of a project where I'm installing a steel door to replace a rotting wooden one for an outdoor utility room. The gap on the latch side is too wide, so I picked up a piece of 2 x 1/2 MDF to fill it, but I only need to reduce the MDF by about 1/8 inch. I've got access to a table saw and the MDF pieces are 7 feet long. I was wondering what the safest way to cut it down would be. Also, if there's anything special I should keep in mind while using the table saw, let me know!

I would be cautious using MDF outdoors since it can swell with moisture. But if you're set on using it, make sure you use the table saw to cut it down to size. Just secure the MDF properly before making the cut, and pull it away from the blade to avoid pinching. Since you’re only trimming a small amount, it should be straightforward as long as you're careful with the measurements. Good luck with the door install!

Yeah, and if you can, seal the edges of the MDF with paint or sealant to help protect it from moisture.
