I'm looking to install a Level II EV charger at home. I have two panels: one outside with a 100A breaker supplying a sub panel for the house and a 40A breaker for the AC. I'm thinking of putting in a 60A breaker for the charger, but I'm not sure how to connect it safely since the power seems to go straight to the breaker box without a main shut-off. Any advice?

Before installing that charger, consider your home's electrical capacity. If your main panel is only 100A and you already have an AC unit running, adding a charger could push you over the limit. You might need to upgrade your panel to accommodate this safely.
Make sure your breaker box has a main breaker at the top; that's the one that disconnects power from your meter. Just remember, even with that disconnected, you can still get shocked if you touch the connections, so be careful when working with electricity!
Are you sure you really need a 60A breaker for your EV charger? Many homeowners are finding they don't need that much power. I strongly recommend hiring a licensed electrician to do the installation safely. They'll know exactly what you need based on your setup!
Actually, the charger is rated for 48A but it’s suggesting a 60A breaker. If I downgrade to 40A, it asks for a 50A breaker instead.

That’s a valid point! It’s crucial to evaluate your overall usage before adding new equipment.
