Hey everyone! I'm moving soon and I need some advice on how to transport my house plants. The journey will take about 14 hours, and I'm planning to stop for the night somewhere. I have around four plants that I've cherished for the last three years, so I'm really keen on bringing them along instead of giving them away. I'm contemplating getting a battery-operated grow light, but I'm not really sure if that's necessary. Any tips or ideas on how to keep them safe during the trip?

I’ve got extensive experience with moving plants! I usually water them a couple of days before, then bag the pots to prevent soil spill and moisture loss. I keep them in boxes with open tops for air, and I’ve transported larger plants without light for up to six days without issues. For a 14-hour drive, they'll be perfectly fine in a packed vehicle. Just keep them out of extreme heat or direct sunlight for long periods!
When I moved, I placed my plants in the front seat. I made sure they were well-watered before the trip, and it worked out great! I even used a shallow box for some of them and covered a couple with a light towel to protect them from strong sunlight. They were perfectly fine after a few days!
Definitely watch the temperature inside your car! Using sunshades when parked helps a lot. I moved from California to New Jersey and my plants did great. Just a heads up, I made the mistake of leaving an orchid in the car too long in the heat of Florida, and it didn't survive. Lesson learned!
