I recently bought a house and I'm in the process of painting all the rooms. In one of the rooms, I've noticed two wires and plugs sticking out of the wall, and I'm not sure what they're for. I'd really like to get rid of them or at least tidy things up. Does anyone have advice on how to safely remove these or cover them up? Totally sounds like those wires were set up for security cameras, especially with those BNC connectors. I’d suggest cutting off the wires and just rolling them up neatly in the wall. You might also consider a blank cover plate to keep everything tidy. If you don’t need those cameras anymore, it's fine to abandon the wires in the wall, too. Just remember to confirm what system is active—sometimes alarms can be linked to that as well.
Looks like you've got some low-voltage cables there. The thick black ones are likely coaxial cables for cable TV. As for those transformers, they could be for a security system or something similar. If you want to get rid of them, you can either stuff them back into the wall and put a blank cover over the opening or patch it up with drywall. It’s totally safe to do that since they’re low voltage.

Yes, there are actually two security cameras on the outside and an old Brinks security system in the kitchen, but it's broken. The realtor told us it wasn’t operational. I want to make sure I don’t mess up anything that might still be working!
