I'm in the process of designing my off-grid solar system, and I have some concerns about safety. I know that batteries can leak hydrogen gas, and I'm planning to build a closet to house the inverter, charge controller, batteries, and wiring. I'm considering adding a vent with an exhaust fan for ventilation. What are your thoughts on this setup? Is there anything else I need to worry about, like preventing physical damage? Also, if you've done something similar, I'd love to see any pictures!

For budget-friendly options, check out some DIY tutorials! There are great resources online showing how to build an efficient system. Consider getting quality components like the EG4 charge controller and maybe some ground-mounted solar panels if you can. I found a community on YouTube that covers a lot of off-grid setups and has been super helpful for my own project!
If you're using lead-acid batteries, hydrogen gas can be a concern, but you should seriously consider using LiFePO4 batteries instead. They don’t outgas under normal conditions. Plus, they’re way more efficient and require less maintenance. Just make sure to keep them in a fire-resistant setup since electrical fires are a risk. Trust me, it’s worth the extra safety precautions!
Definitely go with LiFePO4 batteries. Lead-acid ones are the only type that emit hydrogen gas, so ditch those for better options. I have a setup with three 24v 200AH batteries and a proper ventilation system to maintain the right temperature. My batteries even have heaters to prevent freezing. Just keep your batteries insulated in a well-ventilated shed, and you should be set!
