How to Secure Loose Siding Over My Garage?

Hey everyone! I need some advice on fixing a piece of siding over my garage that's constantly coming loose. When I bought the house, it looked like this section of siding was never properly secured. There's a bar beneath it to hold it in place, but whenever it winds up too strong, the siding just falls off. I'm not sure if using siding hooks is the right solution here since I can't find a way to attach them. Would it be wise to just drill through the siding to secure it? Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Vinyl siding installation has evolved a bit over the years. If the starter strip isn't being used anymore, you might consider using some hidden screws to secure it. This way, the appearance remains intact, but you’ll have the extra support. Just make sure to look up some modern installation techniques that fit your situation!

It sounds like you're dealing with a common issue! From what I can tell, it seems like you're missing a nailing flange or J-channel. If that’s the case, I’d recommend removing a few rows of siding and installing J-channel around the perimeter. You can pick up some white vinyl soffit which is usually more durable than regular siding. Just make sure to measure everything out for a snug fit and use about 1.5" roofing nails to secure the track. Also, allow for some expansion space when cutting the soffit. It’ll really give it a clean look and prevent it from coming loose again!
