How to Securely Attach a Door Frame in My Basement Gym?

Hey everyone! I live in Denver, and I'm in the process of converting a section of my unfinished basement into a gym. The basement has a slab foundation with floating walls, and I'm a bit confused about how to properly attach the door frame. I'm planning to use a pre-hung door, and I've heard that I can use D60 nails to secure it to the base plate at the bottom. But what about higher up? Where else should I attach it to ensure it's stable? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like you're asking how to attach the jamb to the framed opening, right? Generally, you want to secure the door jamb to the top plate in addition to the base plate. This will help keep it sturdy, especially with the floating wall setup you have. Just be sure to leave some flexibility—maybe use shims to allow for slight movement of the slab without compromising stability. Good luck with your gym!

Thanks for clearing that up! I'll make sure to use shims for that little bit of movement.

I totally get your concern! In a floating wall system, it's key to keep the door frame secure yet flexible. Besides nailing the base plate, you could use screws in the upper part of the jamb that can allow for some movement. Just make sure not to tighten them too much to avoid restricting the wall's natural expansion or contraction. Hope that helps!

That's super helpful, thanks! I’ll try using screws for the upper part.
