I've got a big canvas painting, around 50 pounds, that's framed in wood. I tried using a 65lb 3M drywall claw, which I got based on other people's advice, but when I tried to hang it, the sawtooth hanger I nailed into the painting bent and came off. I'm looking for a better, sturdier option to attach to the painting that can properly support its weight and allow me to hang it up without it falling.

You should definitely try finding a stud in your wall to securely hang that hefty painting. Even if it’s not where you’d ideally want to locate it, using a stud is your best bet for that weight.
It sounds like your sawtooth hanger was too flimsy. You could attach a wire across the back to help distribute the weight better.
Yeah, I think those tiny nails were part of the problem; it was just a bad sawtooth.
I used a French cleat to hang a crafting board. Just make sure at least one screw is hitting a stud, and it won't budge! They come with a level to make setup easier too. I hung a bunch of stuff on mine, and it’s super sturdy! You could try the 30-inch version that holds up to 300 lbs.
A French cleat would work wonders for that! If you can make it long enough to hit two studs, it'll provide extra support to keep your painting safe on the wall.

I see what you mean, but the claw seems solid; I think you just need something more durable fastened to the painting itself.
