I'm looking for advice on mounting a flex solar panel to my car's roof rack. I want to avoid permanently attaching it to the roof surface itself due to heat dissipation issues I've read about. However, I'm worried that it might be blown off by wind. I have a Thule square roof rack and a front fairing, and I'm considering using steel zip ties to secure it. Has anyone else done this or have any tips?

How flexible is the panel? The airflow around your car can be pretty erratic, and there might be a lot of movement up there. I'd be cautious about how you secure it. Just make sure it's stable enough to handle the wind without flapping around too much.
I think using zip ties might not be the best option. The flex panel could ripple in the wind and eventually get damaged. Just something to keep in mind! If it starts flapping up there, it's not going to hold up too well.
Not sure if zip ties are officially approved mounting hardware, but I have seen others use similar methods, just not with flex panels. I think it could work, but definitely keep an eye on it. Let me know how it goes!
