How to Set Up a Budget-Friendly Outdoor Shower?

Asked By NatureLover93 On

I'm looking to add a simple outdoor shower to my home without hiring a contractor, since my budget is tight. I found some outdoor shower kits on Amazon that connect to the outdoor faucet. Has anyone here tried installing one themselves? How difficult is it for someone with zero plumbing experience?

I ran into some issues finding the right fittings when I set up my outdoor shower. It took some trial and error, but it worked great for a couple of years! Just make sure to properly drain it in winter to prevent freezing, like I neglected to do and ended up needing a new one!

Installing an outdoor shower can get tricky if you're looking for both hot and cold water, as most outdoor hoses only provide cold water. If you're okay with just cold, it can be a straightforward project! But if you want to add hot water, you'll need some plumbing skills. For reference, my father-in-law has a setup at his off-grid cabin with a wooden deck and a propane water heater. It involved running hoses from the water source and water heater to the shower head. Make sure you have proper drainage and check local regulations if you're going for something more permanent.

If you only want a temporary setup, you can drain it after every use to prevent freezing in colder months like I learned the hard way!

Check out this YouTube video I found that covers the installation! It shows a setup with both hot and cold water, but you could definitely adapt it for just cold water. Super helpful for visual learners!
