Hey everyone! I'm looking to set up my own solar system in Phoenix, AZ, and I could really use some guidance. I have some handy skills and a solid understanding of electrical systems. My plan is to use slightly used components to create a non-exporting parallel system that connects directly to my whole house—I'm not interested in a subpanel. I want the system to pull whatever it needs from the grid to supplement my solar power. I won't be exporting back to the grid as I prefer not to switch to a solar rate plan or sell excess power. Initially, I'd like to start this setup with little to no batteries and maybe add custom battery packs over time. If anyone has experience or insights on how to achieve this, I'd absolutely love to hear your thoughts! Cheers!

If you’re considering a non-exporting setup, you might want to look into using existing ground wires in your outlets. Just keep in mind that this might not comply with local codes. Also, you could try a small-scale approach with a balcony solar module, which is great for powering electronics or recharging batteries without the hassle of inverters wasting energy. It’s all about getting the most out of your setup!
I suggest starting your journey with Santan Solar! They have really great prices and their staff is super knowledgeable about DIY setups. It’s a solid place to gather some tips and maybe find components you're looking for.
Craftstrom Solar is another option I've used and it worked out great! I was able to skip the whole utility connection and permitting drama while saving on installation costs. Definitely worth a look if you want to keep it simple!
