I'm dealing with a frustrating situation where my 9-year-old keeps clogging one of our toilets. Every time, it looks like an entire roll of toilet paper ends up in there! The last time he tried to fix it himself, he made it worse by jamming the TP down with a plunger. I had to call a plumber who used a special snake to clear the clog. Now it flushes, but it makes a weird high-pitched whistling noise. I'm considering replacing it with a high-pressure toilet like the ones in public bathrooms, but I'm unsure if that'll really solve the problem or if it's something deeper in the plumbing. Any tips on how to fix this issue for good? Also, about the sound—it's more of a grunty, gurgling noise that happens on the initial flush, not during the refill.

The whistling you hear is probably related to the toilet’s internal workings, not a clog. Check the water supply valve to make sure it’s fully open—it could have been closed slightly by the plumber. If that doesn't help, look at the fill valve; they can wear out, but they’re cheap to replace. The real issue, though, is definitely teaching your kid proper toilet paper usage. Show him how much to use and encourage him to flush after wiping. Until that behavior changes, clogs will keep happening!
Have you considered getting a bidet? It could really reduce your toilet paper usage, and it’s more sustainable. If a bidet isn't feasible, maybe just limit how much toilet paper he can use until he gets the hang of it. I switched to single-ply toilet paper and it helped a ton with clogs!

Installing a high-pressure toilet could help, but it won’t eliminate the issue completely. It sounds like your child just needs to learn how to use it properly. When he clogs it, make him help with unclogging it—it'll teach him a valuable lesson! Just be sure you're supervising so it doesn’t become too messy.

Thanks for the suggestions! I checked the water supply valve like you said but still have that weird noise. The fill valve is fairly new too, so I might just have to focus on my kid's TP habits for now.
