Hey everyone! I'm planning to move some of my small houseplants from Oregon to Indianapolis this summer. Shipping them is an option, but I'm a bit worried about the cost. I've seen some people mention taking plants on planes. Has anyone done this recently? Here's what I'm bringing:
- Calatheas (8 inch pots) - these guys are pretty dramatic, so I might just ship them.
- A pothos that has sentimental value.
- A mini monstera (4 feet tall) that also holds some special memories.
- A few pepperomias, including two small and two large ones.
With my husband, two kids, and possibly two cats in tow, I'm concerned about space on the flight. Can anyone share how they managed their plants during travel? Did you carry them on or put them in your luggage?

I've taken plants on domestic flights before, and it worked out fine! For small cuttings, I used a baggie with a damp paper towel, and for tiny plants, a jar with a lid works well too. Just be ready to repot them quickly since the soil will get all shaken up. If you can, driving them would be ideal to keep them safe, but since flying is your plan, I'd recommend taking cuttings of your sentimental plants as a backup. Just in case anything happens!
Could you tell me more about how you transported them? Were they in your luggage or carry-on? I love the jar idea! I could put paper on top too.

Great idea! I might just take some cuttings for the flight and consider shipping the rest. Driving isn't feasible as we need to get there quickly before school starts back up.
