I have some lilacs that have gotten really overgrown, and I'm considering cutting them all the way down to the soil to help them rejuvenate. Is that safe, or will it end up killing the plants? Also, any tips on how to approach this cleanup would be appreciated! Thanks!

Lilacs actually do pretty well after a heavy cut. It's called rejuvenation pruning! I recommend leaving around 4-6 inches above the ground when you prune, just make sure to do this while the plants are still dormant. It’s the end of February now, so perfect timing!

Thanks, appreciate the advice! I think they're still dormant since it's February here in Alberta. How long do you think it’ll take for them to grow back up to 5 or 6 feet?
