How to Wire a Chandelier in Place of a Ceiling Fan?

I recently removed a ceiling fan and want to install a vintage chandelier in its place. From the fan, there were five wires: two black wires that were connected together, two whitish wires also grouped together, and one lone white wire. The chandelier, however, only has two black wires. Can anyone help me figure out how to connect them?

It sounds like that lone white wire might be a bit of a puzzle. Where was it connected on your old fan? That could give you a clue about its purpose. Double-check that before making any connections!
