Hi everyone! My husband and I are planning to install cellular shades throughout our home and we're torn between Hunter Douglas and Graber. We'd love to hear your thoughts, experiences, and any advice you can share about either brand. Thanks in advance!

I personally have had a bad experience with Hunter Douglas shades. They don't really meet my expectations, especially with the telescoping feature, which I find frustrating.

But to throw in a positive, we do have a custom motorized shade from them for a skylight, and it has been fantastic!

What do you mean by telescoping? Is it a design flaw?

Honestly, I feel like both brands are pretty overpriced for what you get. Have you thought about checking out IKEA? You can get similar cellular shades for a fraction of the price if you can get the dimensions right.

We've been really happy with our Graber solar shades. We got both remote motorized and manual pull-down options, and they work great!

If you can swing it, definitely get a pro installer for advice on how to fit them according to your window shape and trim. There are so many colors and textures to choose from, so don’t rush that part! Also, don’t forget the valences—they make a huge difference in the overall look.

Pro tip: If you're near a Costco, they sell Graber and often offer a good rebate on the purchase, plus they vet the contractors they work with, which adds peace of mind.
