I've got a persistent little crack in my basement that leaks water every time it rains. A plumber recommended hydraulic cement as an easy DIY fix, but I've also seen some suggestions for using polyurethane foam. I could really use some advice on which option might work better for this situation. Just to clarify, the crack is between the ground and the inside wall, not on the outside. Honestly, just patching that crack might not solve the problem permanently. Water will find a way to seep around whatever you use to block it. Your best bet might be to track down where the water is entering from outside. If that's not possible, consider installing a French drain combined with a sump pump to redirect the water properly instead. You can't just put something in front of flowing water; you need to manage its source or flow.
That's good to know, but my basement wall is kind of in the center of the house. It’s not flooding outside when it rains, so I can't quite figure out where the leak is coming from. Plus, the leak seems to happen no matter how heavy or light the rain is.
