Ideas for Adding Privacy to a Garden with a Picket Fence?

I'm about to move, and my new place has a picket fence dividing the back gardens with my neighbor. There's some greenery like trees and shrubs, but it's still quite open. I'm looking for quick-growing plants or trees that can provide a bit more privacy. I've thought about using buddleia, but I'd love to get more suggestions!

I recommend going for large pots—like 30 liters and up—with bamboo or pampas grass. They should fill out nicely in a year or two and give you a cool privacy hedge effect. Just a heads up, don’t plant them directly in the ground!

If you're renting, putting up your own fence might not be an option. But you could try expanding with a trellis and adding faux ivy. Or, you could create a makeshift curtain by cementing tall posts in planters and stringing some material in between. Adding tall reed mats or bamboo slats can also work wonders.

I totally feel you! I have a similar setup, and I'm thinking about using bamboo screening rolls. They’re super easy to set up and can add a nice natural look while blocking some views.
