Ideas for Turning My Bathroom into a Cozy Forest Retreat

I want to transform my rather unattractive downstairs bathroom into a cozy forest or cottage-inspired paradise. I'm considering crafting tree branches to cover the exposed pipes and possibly adding a hidden plant pot since there's one in a great spot. I thought about a fake window that looks out on a pretty lake across from the toilet — what do you think? I've got some basic sculpting skills and a fully equipped wood shop with carving tools, but I'm unsure of where to begin. What materials should I use for the branches? I was thinking maybe polymer clay, but it needs to be paintable and sealable because there's a shower in there. I have plenty of art experience for adding details like bark, but I'm feeling a bit lost on materials and other ideas for the walls. Luckily, it's my own house, so I can go wild!

Why not turn the pipes into branches themselves? That could be a fun way to blend the practical and aesthetic. You might want to look into some craft foam or lightweight wood that you can carve to shape. Just be sure it can withstand the bathroom conditions!

That’s exactly what I had in mind, but I’m unsure what the best materials would be. Any specific recommendations?

Consider painting a scene directly onto the walls! If painting isn’t your strong suit, you could look into removable wall murals. This one from Walmart, for example, has a great fantasy forest theme that might fit your vision perfectly. Having both 3D elements like your branches and some scenic background could really create the depth you’re looking for.
