I'm looking to install a grab bar in my father-in-law's fiberglass shower for safety. I've been checking out the Moen Securemount Anchor and the Solid Mount because I can't find many other options. I really want to make sure it's secure since he's under 200lbs, and I'm also worried about any potential water leakage. I'm a DIY enthusiast with some home improvement experience, so I think I can follow the instructions. Are those products good choices, or are there better alternatives? What are your experiences with these or other grab bars?

If you can’t find studs to mount the grab bar, the best solution would be to remove the shower and install some blocking behind it. This will ensure that the grab bar is securely anchored. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but it really gives you peace of mind. If that’s not an option for you, you might consider accessing the wall from behind to add the support without fully removing the shower. Just keep in mind that blocking in every grab bar location during renovation can save you loads of trouble later!
I get why you're hesitant to go that route! If you’re looking for a simpler fix, both the Moen Securemount and the Solid Mount can really do the job if installed correctly. Just remember to double-check the wall for the best stability point, and use proper waterproofing measures to avoid leakage.
