Installing a Wall Oven: Fire Safety and Electrical Box Height

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on installing a wall oven in a cabinet, particularly regarding fire safety measures like fireproofing, venting, insulation, and firewalls. I've noticed that most installation guides don't mention anything about firewalls, which has left me wondering if they are necessary. Also, I've been curious about venting; should the cabinet have a vent to let out the heat from the oven? Lastly, the manual suggests mounting the electrical box for the oven 30 inches above it, which seems a little odd to me. Why is that height recommended? Thanks for your help!

When it comes to residential wall oven installations, there isn’t a lot of strict fire protection needed. Most houses have various exits, so the focus is more on keeping the people safe than protecting the structure itself. For ovens in commercial settings, you’d typically see cement board with tile or stainless steel for added fire protection. You might find that a lot of standard home installations don't include firewalls at all, like in some of these videos I came across. Check them out for a visual reference!

Yeah, I found those installation videos helpful too. It's interesting to see how others do it without firewalls in simple cabinetry. Just keep an eye on heat buildup, I guess!

Definitely stick to the installation instructions—they're made for safety! The 30" height for the electrical box is likely to prevent overheating and to make it easier to unplug the unit when necessary without pulling it out. If you're unsure, you could always give the manufacturer a call or check local codes for extra clarity!
