Is $1,000 a Fair Price for Front Door Replacement Labor?

I'm looking to replace my front door and just received a quote of $1,000 for labor alone, with me purchasing the door separately. This includes removing the old door and jamb, as well as installing the new door, jamb, and trim. I'm in the DFW, TX area and I'm curious if this price is normal. We're still waiting for a few more quotes, so any insight would be appreciated!

In my experience, door work can really vary. Sometimes it goes smoothly, and sometimes you uncover problems that take longer to fix. It's not uncommon for a skilled carpenter to charge around $1,000 for a full day, especially if they have a lot of other jobs. I recommend getting a few more estimates to compare; it seems like you're already on the right track!

It really depends on several factors, like the specifics of your door and how old your house is. If everything is in good shape and your new door is the same size, it shouldn't be too complicated. But, if there are issues like needing to move studs or modify siding, it can get more expensive and time-consuming. Overall, for a simple job, $1,000 is reasonable.

Yeah, that price sounds about right these days! Replacing a front door isn't just a quick swap; you need to remove the entire frame, set the new jamb square and plumb, and do a lot of sealing and trimming. It typically takes half a day to a full day, especially in older homes where nothing is level. In my area, I've seen labor costs between $700 and $1,200 just for the installation, so $1,000 isn't a scam at all.
