Is $1300 a Fair Price for a Prehung Exterior Door Installation?

I'm considering hiring someone for a prehung exterior door installation, and I'm unsure if the quote of $1300 is reasonable. The initial estimate was $1625, but he said he can bring it down to $1300. The details are as follows: the door costs $500 (it's a standard size of 32"W x 80"H, with a 6 9/16" frame), and the existing jamb and frame are in bad shape. The breakdown includes various tasks, such as removing the old screen door, prep work, and installation of the door and frame, totaling all the items up. I'm located in Urbana, IL, which has a population of around 100k. Any advice or thoughts on whether this is a fair price?

Yeah, that price sounds pretty fair for an exterior door installation. Especially when you consider the labor involved in taking out the old door and frame. If the contractor is organized and knows exactly what needs to be done, you’ll be in good hands! I'd say go for it.

I agree! It's often worth paying someone who knows what they're doing, especially for a task as critical as hanging an exterior door.

Definitely! A pro will make sure everything is sealed properly, which will save you from potential leaks later.
