I'm looking to improve the security of my front door, which has been around for over a century. A carpenter has quoted me CDN $15,000 to modify the door and add a remote controller. Is this quote reasonable, or should I be looking for other options?

Honestly, it's hard to say without more details about what you mean by a remote controller. If it's just a simple upgrade, that price seems ridiculously high. You might want to share a photo and give more specifics about the door and what you're planning to do with it. More context will help people give you better advice!

CraftyBuilder22: Exactly! Knowing what kind of door and the specific modifications you're after would help a ton. Otherwise, we’re just guessing here!

Adding features like an electric strike might be a more cost-effective option instead of replacing or heavily modifying the door. $15,000 seems steep unless there's major work involved. I suggest getting a few more quotes to see if this price is in the ballpark or if you’re being overcharged. It never hurts to shop around!

DIYDude77: Totally agree! I had a similar situation, and I ended up getting it done for a fraction of that price. It's insane how much variation there can be in quotes.
