Is $1,800 a Fair Price for Painting My Cabinets?

I'm a homeowner considering cabinet painting and I've received a quote of $1,750 for 18 cabinet doors and 8 drawers from what seems like an affordable option. However, I'm unsure if this price makes sense because I find $1,800 too steep. I've never done this before and am not clear on the average cost for such work. I'm also concerned because they mentioned the price might go up another $150 to $300, totalling over $2,000. Is this a typical range, and should I think about other options?

While $1,800 might sound like a high price, it could be reasonable depending on how much prep work is involved. Just make sure they clearly detail what that includes – like sanding, priming, and the painting process itself. You could even get more quotes from other painters to see the standard in your area. A good DIY project can save you a pretty penny too. If you decide to go that route, set a daily goal, like completing one cabinet a day, for a manageable workload!

Absolutely! Most projects are more time-consuming than difficult, so if you're up for it, you'll likely end up with a great finish and save a good amount of cash. Materials shouldn't cost you more than $300 max.

Honestly, $1,800 does seem like a great deal, especially when you consider you’d be paying for both the labor and materials. Quality of paint matters too, and hiring a pro often means getting a better finish than DIY with store-bought products. Just make sure you get references and confirm their process to ensure you're getting value for your money!

Painting cabinets can be quite the task, often taking more time than you might expect, but it's definitely doable if you're willing to put in the effort. If you think handling it yourself might be too much trouble, then hiring someone could save you a lot of hassle. Just be cautious about taking a loan from your 401k; it's a risky move that could affect your future finances.
