I'm looking for some insights on siding prices in 2025. I've seen online that Hardie siding typically costs between $5 and $15 per square foot for replacement. Today, I received a quote of $36.4k for pre-painted Hardie siding on my single-story, 1800 sq ft home, which breaks down to about $20.22 per square foot. Given that I have easy access and no hills, I'm wondering if this price is on the higher side compared to what others are experiencing. What do you all think?

In my area, I’ve received quotes ranging from $50k to $55k for James Hardie on a two-story farmhouse. It seems that around here, most contractors shy away from fiber cement, which might explain your slight sticker shock—definitely try to get multiple quotes to see what others are offering.
It really depends on where you're located. I recommend getting a few more quotes to compare. While your price doesn't seem too ridiculous in isolation, it does seem a bit higher than normal, especially since typical costs are around $16-18 per square foot without extras. But if it's including things like tear-off and disposal of old siding, plus facia and eaves, then maybe it’s not as bad as it looks.
I have another contractor coming out tomorrow who does both Hardie and SmartSide. He mentioned that the pricing isn’t too different, which might help me compare better.
If your quote includes soffit and fascia work, then $20 per square foot isn't completely off base for a complete job. Just make sure you're getting everything done that you need, and get those few quotes!

That’s interesting to note! The quote I got was specifically from a contractor who only works with Hardie, so I’m curious how tomorrow’s estimates will compare.
