Is $2,000 Too Much to Plant 7 Hydrangeas and 15 Bleeding Hearts?

I just received a quote from a landscaper for planting 7 limelight hydrangeas and 15 bleeding hearts in my retaining wall, and I'm starting to wonder if it's too expensive. The total was $2,000, but that doesn't even cover the soil, which costs around $1,500. Am I just being crazy, or does this seem high?

If you're physically able to do the work, buying the plants yourself and planting them could be a smart move. It's not rocket science—a lot of people do it themselves. You might save a ton if you handle the labor and just have the soil delivered.

It really depends on the size of the plants. If they’re large, mature hydrangeas, then the price could be justified. If they're smaller versions, then yes, it does seem high. You should get more details about what kinds of plants and how much soil is needed; that’ll help clarify whether this quote is reasonable.

Honestly, the price seems steep for just planting. If the $1,500 is purely for soil, that leads to another concern about labor cost. Typically, you could expect to pay around $500-$750 for the labor to move soil and plant those flowers, depending on where you live. Have you considered getting more quotes to see what others might charge?
