Is $2,300 a Fair Price for Installing My Mini Split?

I'm looking to have a mini split system installed, and the contractor has quoted me $2,300 for the installation. They won't provide a parts warranty (which makes sense) and there's also no warranty on labor, which feels a bit suspicious. The installation site is straightforward and only involves a straight drop. I appreciate that it was hard to find someone willing to work with my equipment, but I'd like some advice before I agree to this price since I don't have any other quotes to compare it with.

I got a couple quotes recently for a similar job in Michigan, and they were around the same price. So, it seems like you're in the right range. If they’re willing, it might be a good deal!

Honestly, I'd say go for it! As an HVAC contractor, I know how tough it is to find someone willing to install equipment that you provide. This quote is pretty reasonable based on what I see in the business. On my side, I’d do a basic install for about $2,500 on the weekend. So, if they’re in that ballpark, it sounds fair to me!

Thanks, this helps! I just want to be smart about it. I totally get why many shops stay away from owner-provided stuff.

You're really lucky to find a contractor willing to do that. Most don't want to take on the liability for equipment that owners buy. I suggest getting a couple more quotes just to be sure, as local rates vary. But if you’re comfortable, it could be worth it to save yourself the trouble!
