I just received a quote for installing a fireplace that ranges from $25,000 to $30,000 based on the unit I might choose. To me, this seems excessive, but I'm not really knowledgeable about these things. The setup would have the fireplace extending into the room instead of being built into a wall; it will be against an interior wall. We don't need anything fancy or high efficiency. The fireplace and flue will be boxed in and drywalled using safe materials, and the chimney will go straight up through the roof. We'll have it sitting on a safety pad to protect the flooring. Overall, it seems like a pretty standard setup. Can anyone help me understand if this quote is reasonable? Thanks!

I agree with others—get those extra quotes! Also, consider if you're going for a basic linear gas fireplace or something more complex. Basic Heat & Glo models can start around $10K-$15K just for the unit alone, and any added decorative features like stone work can significantly hike up the costs.
I’d suggest getting a couple more quotes to see what others say. If they’re all in the same range, then it might be okay. Just a heads up, my friend has a chimney that needs major repairs which is around $20K, so I can see how costs add up for these types of projects.
It really depends on a few factors, so I'd recommend getting more quotes. Your post doesn’t give all the info needed to say if that price is crazy or not. For example, are you looking at a gas fireplace or a wood one? If you’re leaning toward gas, check out direct vent options that avoid the need for a massive chimney.
