Is $3000 a Fair Price for an 80 Gallon Electric Hot Water Tank Installed?

I'm considering getting a new 80 gallon AO Smith electric hot water tank installed, and I've been quoted $3000 for the whole deal. Is this a reasonable price? I'm curious about the costs compared to other types of tanks and installations as well.

I found out that the exact model they're installing is the AO Smith LTE-80D. They seem to be getting it for a couple hundred less than your quote. If you're going with electric, be aware that there are regulations limiting the size of residential electric heaters, so there's some work to do with the wiring to adhere to those updates. Just make sure to factor in those costs if you decide to negotiate!

Thanks for the heads up! I didn’t know about the wiring issue. I'll definitely ask about that.

That's definitely on the high side for an electric tank. You should consider how much the installation is costing versus the tank itself. Some people have mentioned getting similar setups for around $1800 if you go gas and do the installation yourself, so it might be worth checking other options or getting more quotes.

Yeah, I agree! It might be helpful to look at local prices or even see if you can find someone to install it separately. That way you can save a bit.
